About KATA

KATA is one safety razor with the blade angle built into the head, and the few things that go with it. That's all we sell.

The silver razor in its stand and the silver brush on a stone shelf in the morning light

01

The name

Kata (型) is a Japanese word for form: the right way to do something, learned once and then repeated without thinking. That's what we wanted from a razor. Get the motion once, then let it become part of the morning.

02

One blade, one good angle

A classic safety razor asks you to find the right angle yourself and hold it through every stroke. That takes practice. We put the angle in the head instead. The blade sits at 30 degrees, so you lay the razor flat, tip the handle out a touch and shave.

03

Standard blades, on purpose

KATA takes any standard double-edge blade, the kind sold almost everywhere. You choose the brand and where to buy them, and there's no plastic cartridge to throw away. We sell a box of 100 for convenience, not because you need ours.

04

A tool you keep on the shelf

A metal razor standing in its stand, a brush drying on its base. It's meant to stay out on the counter and be used every morning: rinsed, shaken off, stood up to dry. Two finishes, brushed silver and matte graphite, so it fits the room it lives in.

05

Two shops, one razor

KATA sells in the United States in dollars and in Japan in yen. Shipping and import duties are included in every price, and you have 30 days to send back anything unused. Details on our shipping and returns pages.

The razor

Two finishes, one razor

Brushed silver or matte graphite. The head, the angle and the handle are the same.
